Mahonia is a tough, evergreen shrub known for its bold, architectural foliage and bright winter flowers. Its spiky, holly‑like leaves form strong, upright clumps that bring structure and texture to shaded areas. From late autumn into early spring, Mahonia produces fragrant clusters of yellow flowers, followed by purple‑black berries that attract wildlife. It’s one of the best shrubs for adding colour and interest during the coldest months, thriving in shade where many plants struggle.
